Why are government structures, including sodalities, being renamed in Indian- administered Kashmir?

Authorities in Indian- administered Kashmir have ordered the renaming of dozens of sodalities, seminaries, roads and government structures.

On November 6, Government Degree College, Kalam, located in Kulgam quarter of South Kashmir, was renamed as Altaf Memorial Government Degree College, Kalam.

Altaf Ahmad Dar was a police inspector in Kashmir who was killed in a self-murder attack in North Kashmir in 2015.

Altaf Ahmed was necessary in the fight against bellicosity in Kashmir.

He specializes in"online surveillance"of zealots and has led several successful operations.

Altaf Ahmed was also known then as'Altaf Laptop'.

The death of Altaf Ahmed was a major blow to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The day the council was renamed, elderly administration officers were present.

Altaf Ahmed's family was also present in the program.

Also, a government degree council in Shopian quarter has been named as'Imtiaz Ahmed Thakur Memorial Model Degree College'.

Imtiaz Thakur was an Indian dogface and part of the Elite Para Commando Squad.

He was killed in 2010 in a clash with zealots in north Kashmir.

The clash lasted for 15 hours in which an army captain was also killed.

In Shopian, renaming the council after a dogface is considered important as the area has been a fort of zealots for numerous times.

Government orders renaming

Last September, the Jammu and Kashmir administration blazoned the conformation of a commission and asked the commission to suggest renaming of sodalities, seminaries, roads and other government structures.

In October, the administration ordered the renaming of 76 government seminaries and other structures.

While utmost of these seminaries and structures are in Jammu.

On the other hand, orders have been issued to change the names of 25 institutions in Kashmir Valley.

Government structures aren't limited to the names of dogfaces and bobbies, but numerous sodalities and seminaries are named after pens, songsmiths, and artists.

 Names of pens and vocalizers

The theater of Government Information Department in Srinagar has been renamed as Raj Begum Auditorium after the notorious songster of Kashmir.

Raj Begum is one of the women of Kashmir who took up singing profession and removed the walls that averted women from singing in Kashmir.

Raj Begum was also awarded the Padma Shri, India's sanctioned honor. Raj Begum, popularly known as'Melody Queen'of Kashmir, failed in 2016.

The Women's Degree College at Batpura in Srinagar is also named after the notorious Kashmir pen Akhtar Mohi-ud-Din.

Akhtar Mohi-ud-Din was awarded the Sahtia Academy Award in 1958 and was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1968.

When Maqbool Butt of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front was hanged in 1984, Mohi-ud-Din was one of the many artists who returned the Sahtia Academy Award in kick.

When the bellicosity erupted in Kashmir in the 1990's, the realities of Kashmir began to crop in Akhtar's jottings.

Akhtar also returned the Padma Shri award in kick against the contended atrocities committed by security help against the general public.

Another council in Srinagar is named after playwright Motilal Chemo.

Motilal was a big supporter of protection of folk theater in Kashmir.

 What does the government say?

The government of Indian- administered Kashmir believes that renaming roads and structures can help children learn about the" true history"of Kashmir.

"There are a lot of people in Kashmir who have done great effects in their separate fields,"Kashmir Zone Divisional Commissioner Kandurang K Paul told the BBC. Dogfaces of our army have also got Param Vir Chakra or Ashoka Chakra.

The work done by our fathers has been praised. It needs to be placed in front of children, which is why the government has taken the action in naming it.

Paul insists that the government isn't changing the name but keeping it.
