 Five- member inquiry commission set up to probe into 22 deaths in Murree 

 

 

The government of Pakistan's Punjab fiefdom has set up a five- member commission to probe the deaths of 22 excursionists in Murree on Saturday, while the ban on visiting Murree and Galyat will remain in force till Monday evening. 

It's to be noted that 22 excursionists who were trapped in vehicles lost their lives during heavy snowfall in the mountain resort Murree. 

 

 According to the list released by Deliverance 1122, the dead included 10 men, two women and 10 children.

 Utmost of the deaths passed in four vehicles stranded on the road in Kaldana area. Will be nominated latterly. 

The inquiry commission has been directed to submit its report within seven days.



The commission will look into whether the applicable departments, including the quarter administration and the police, had come up with a common action plan despite the bad rainfall read by the Meteorological Department. 

 

 The commission will also look into why excursionists from Galyat and Islamabad weren't stopped at entry points when the number of vehicles in Murree was exceeding the capacity.

 The commission will also look into the cause of the accident as well as the effectiveness of the deliverance

 What were the reasons that led to this tragedy? 

 Decision to give quarter status to Murree 




A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar on Sunday after which according to a press release, it was decided to give quarter status to Murree which is now a tehsil of Rawalpindi quarter. 

 

 The meeting also decided on the reconstruction of Murree roads, parking installations and illegal constructions, while also limiting the number of vehicles and people dying in Murree. 

 According to a statement issued by Pakistan Army on Sunday, all the main roads have been opened for all kinds of business while the road from Kaldana to Barian has also been cleared. 

 

 According to the army, work is now underway to open access roads. 

On the other hand, according to Galyat Development Authority, the road from Abbottabad to Nathia Gali Murree has also been opened but excursionists aren't allowed to go there. 

 

 According to information handed by the Pakistan Army Public Relations Department, people have been vacated from all vehicles stranded in and around Murree and five relief camps have been set up in and around Murree.

The Pakistani service says stranded excursionists are being handed temporary accommodation and food at Army Public School Kaldana. 

 

 Still, according to BBC pressman Farhat Javed, several vehicles are still stuck in the snow on the roadsides and work is underway to remove them. 

A snow exigency has been declared in Murree by the Punjab government and the tehsil has been declared a disaster. ۔ 

Meanwhile, according to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, mobile phone companies have handed free calls in Murree and Galyat. 

 

 Status of relief conditioning

 Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed anguish over the deaths of excursionists, saying that the administration wasn't ready to go there due to unusual snowfall and people not being suitable to get there without reviewing the rainfall."I'm deeply burdened by the woeful deaths of excursionists on the way to Murree,"he said. The quarter administration was unrehearsed for the large number of people arriving without taking into account the unusual snowfall and rainfall conditions. 

He also said that an inquiry into the killings had been ordered and that strict rules had been issued to help similar tragedies."It isn't possible to handle such a large number of people,"he said. 

 Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told a news conference on Saturday evening that the government was on high alert, adding that the Prime Minister had taken note of the situation while five army gangs and FWO ministry were engaged in relief operations. 

 

 He also said that if such a large number of people could reach a place in such a short time, it would not be possible for the administration to handle such a large number. 


 He said the administration had been saying for a week that they shouldn't go there and he'd say formerly again that there was a lot of rush in ncluding Murree at the moment, so people should avoid going there. 

 

 It should be noted that Fawad Chaudhry in a tweet a many days ago ate the huge increase in the number of people in Murree.
