Fort William College An educational

Fort William College An educational institution established by the British which lasted only a many times but its goods remain two centuries latterly.

July 10, 1800 is a memorable date as one of the largest metropolises in India at that time established a council in Fort William, Calcutta.

Write a letter and contend that its establishment be considered May 4, 1800.

He wanted to commemorate the establishment of this council as the first anniversary of the defeat and death of Tipu Sultan, the'Lion of Mysore'at the hands of the British.

Lord Wellesley wanted to develop it as the'Oxford of the East', the Oxford University of the East.

But the council, which is said to have played a crucial part in shaping the fortune of the key, lasted for a many times, but its goods are still felt two centuries latterly.

It was set up to enlighten, beautify and beautify the youthful Englishmen with Indian language and literature and oriental lores and trades, but it turned the drift of Indian language and literature.

The London board of directors of the East India Company wasn't in favor of its establishment as they believed that there was a system of education in England for this job from where graduates were transferred to India so that they could go to different corridor of India.

I was suitable to strengthen and consolidate the British domination.

Fort William College was a source of contestation among the British from its commencement and latterly came a source of great contestation among the Indians as well.

Therefore, it's said that for the first time, the difference between Urdu and Hindi, like the British policy of' peak and rule', surfaced as a rift that grew to such an extent that India ultimately resolve into two countries, India and Pakistan.

Bangladesh came a separate country from Pakistan due to language and geographical and political differences.

Numerous erudite critics don't agree with this statement and say that this difference formerly was because then The water and the shoptalk change every two kos, so numerous Orientalists have also called India a' gallery of languages'.

Some of these critics believe that the people were claiming division on the base of language in order to unbend their potatoes or cook their own porridge in view of the growing power of East India.

Before the founding of Fort William

The Battle of Plassey between Siraj-ud-Daulah and the British in 1757 handed an occasion for the British to gain a base in India.

India strengthened the power of the company.

The East India Company also realized that they demanded people then who could help them in managing their affairs and in view of this Governor General Warren Hastings established the Calcutta Madrasa in October 1780. Which latterly came to be known as Madrasa Alia.

He paid for the academy for one time out of his own fund, which was latterly approved by the British government in Bengal, and the charges incurred by Warren Hastings for the whole time were refunded to him. Latterly, at the suggestion of Sir William Jones, a Calcutta Supreme Court judge, the Asiatic Society for the Study of Asia and South Asia in particular came into being.

Also, before the founding of Fort William we see the Gilchrist seminary which was latterly intermingled with Fort William as Gilchrist came the first star of Fort William College.

It should be noted that Gilchrist was brought to India as a surgeon or croaker and was posted in Bombay rather of Calcutta but also he was changed and he reached Calcutta after spending some time in different corridor of North India.

He was the first to realize this and claim that there's a language in this country which is spoken and understood each over North India and he named it'Indian' language.

Still, the debate is different as to whether Urdu or Hindi was a separate conception at that time.

Siddique-ur-Rehman Qadwai, a experimenter at Fort William College and former professor of Jawaharlal Nehru, has said in his book'Gilchrist and the Language of India'about Gilchrist that Gilchrist had similar difficulty in learning the language that he learned Indian.

Harish Trivedi, a professor of English language and literature at Delhi University, believes that Gilchrist made a mistake in understanding India.

And they indeed understood Hindi and Bengali languages as one.

Citing an illustration of his mistake, he said in a Rekhta program in 2019 that"Gilchrist says of the Taj Mahal that Shah Jahan and his woman Noor Jahan are buried there.

It's also said about him that he learned from the poetry and runes of the notorious Urdu minstrel Mirza Muhammad Rafi Soda, whereas indeed moment's Urdu preceptors can not fluently understand the runes of Soda.

 Purpose of Fort William

It's

generally believed that Fort William College was established to introduce English civil retainers to the language, culture and judicial system of India.

But if you look at the whole structure of this institution, it was directly under the influence of the Church of England.

One of its main purposes was to carry out Christian missionary work.

It's said that when Tipu Sultan was defeated at Srirangapatnam in South India in 1799, the British attained a dupe of the Quran from there and after seeing it said that the way should now be paved for the propagation of Bible in India.

Has gone It should be noted that that time was the period of Renaissance in Bengal and thinkers like Ram Mohan Roy were its settlers. So there was room for all feathers of ideas.

The council came into being on July 10, when its constitution was approved on August 18, but to commemorate the defeat of Tipu Sultan, May 4 was declared the day of its establishment.

Still, the first session of the council started on February 6, 1801.

The purpose of its establishment in council bills is as follows
